To get a job, graduates and post-graduates in science, arts, commerce, management as well as engineers comprised of 82 lakh candidates applied for the lowest posts in the Railway hierarchy – which includes the post of track-men, Khalasi, or helpers against the 62,907 available posts, reports The Wire.
RRB Group D: Last year, the Railway Recruitment Board had notified 62,907 Level 1 posts. The posts include gangman, cabinman, helpers, keyman, trackman and welders among others.
Actually there are 2 crore applications were received by the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) for these jobs which are referred Level-1 or Group D category in Railways, only 1,88,721 candidates were called for a physical efficiency test. The process of applying for these posts started in middle of 2018, and as of now, the Railway Recruitment Board is undergoing with the process of document verification and medical test for selected 75,485 candidates.
Due to huge response of applications last year, the RRB took a very good amount of time to review them, and it is finally in a right position to start the final call. According to The Wire report, successful candidates are anticipated to receive appointment letters for Group D jobs by the end of May 2019.
That is, 302 applicants for every job — jobs that are at the lowest level in the railways, including posts such as gangman (those who maintain tracks), gateman, pointsman, helper in electrical/mechanical/engineering/ signal/telecommunications, porter etc.
Group D or Level 1 is the lowest category of employment under Indian Railways. Job titles under Group D are: helpers (also called Khalasi), gateman, helper in offices and sheds, track-men or gang-men and points-men whose task is to maintain tracks.
The minimum educational qualification required for applying for these jobs is class 10 pass, and a certificate from the National Council on Vocational Training or Industrial Training Institutes, or have a National Apprenticeship Certificate.
The data obtained by The Wire distinguishing the candidates based on their merit is appaling. It mentioned that 4,19,137 candidates hold BTech degrees and 40,751 applicants with a post-graduate degree in engineering. Apart from engineers, 19.1 lakh applicants are arts graduates, 3.83 lakh are post-graduates in arts, 9.57 lakh are science graduates, and 1,27,018 are post-graduates in science.
The above figures display the lack of jobs available and real job crisis in the country. Well-educated young minds have no option and are getting forced to apply for jobs that require less education then what they already have. Inadequate quality of jobs is decimating these graduates talents and ruining their dreams.
